14th Annual Alternative Giving Fair goes Virtual!

Invitation to Share God’s Abundance by Zoom

Saturday, December 12 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Consider which Christmas gifts you might give in honor of your family and friends - gifts that may change the life of someone you will never meet. How will you share the wonder of the season with gifts in honor of your friends and family? What touches your heart? Water for a village? A goat? Providing an encounter with God for children, youth, or college students, Global outreach, Food for a hungry child? Mark your calendar now to share a virtual experience with local and global outreach non-profit organizations. Not only will you have the opportunity to transform someone else’s world, you just may transform your own.

While we are unable to “shop” in-person, due to COVID 19 concerns, we CAN gather together by zoom! Together we can hear brief overviews of participating non-profits and see some beautiful video clips of their work, speak directly to organization representatives and say hi to one another. Information to donate or purchase any items for sale will be provided during the fair. For each donation made, you will receive a Christmas card designed by one of our very own youth members, filled out for your use in giving to the recipient of your gift.

This Christmas season give a gift that will transform someone’s life in a way that another tie, sweater, or toy cannot do. You can participate in this opportunity together with one another at Williamsburg United Methodist Church’s Alternative Giving Fair.

Zoom link coming soon!

THE way of the manger

Saturday, December 19 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

We are excited to offer a special Christmas and Advent experience in our parking lot, Saturday, December 19 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. “The Way of the Manger” is an outdoor, drive-through live nativity with scenes that tell the Christmas story and share the good news of Christ’s birth. We will even have some live animals! This will be an event for the entire community.

Our December Prayer Calendar, beginning December 1, is designed to help us as a church family to anticipate the coming of Emmanuel, God with us.   What would be a sign of Jesus’ intrusion into our lives?  One would be the fulfillment of the words of the Prophets:  “Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; You will cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’  If you . . . give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness and your gloom will become like midday” (Isaiah 58:9-10).

Our journey through the days of December may prompt a deep reflection on the joy of receiving God’s abundance, and the privilege of sharing with the poor of our land and God’s world through the Advent Offering for Global Hunger.

Bless you in your footsteps on that journey.

Recorded Advent Devotions

Often, the weeks leading up to Christmas are a whirlwind of busyness and stress. Perhaps, this year, we are being offered the grace of letting go of all holiday expectations from years past. The pandemic does present us with a special opportunity to rekindle the power of faith practices in the home. This Advent, we will offer an online recorded time to gather together, light Advent candles, listen to and reflect upon words of scripture, and pray.

May the Holy Spirit use these simple, meaningful moments to draw you and your family into the wonder and peace of this time when we prepare our hearts to welcome Jesus, our Savior, once again.
